It’s that time of year….seems like everyone starts to think about family pictures, seasons are changing and Christmas season is just around the corner. This is definitely my busiest time of year but also my favorite. Leaves will start to change, and all the holidays are full of memories you want to hold on to and share at the same time.
A couple tips for choosing a photographer:

1.Choose someone that compliments your style or that can accommodate to it.
While it’s easy to choose someone by price I recommend looking at their portfolio either on their website or images they upload to facebook . If they only shoot in front of graffiti walls or black backgrounds, that can’t be for everyone. And if they shoot with dramatic angles every session that can’t be for everyone either. Find what best suits your family.
 2. Choose someone with experience
I myself, specialize in newborns but also have tons of experience with families and children. I cringe when I hear people taking their newborns to chain studios. Most chain studios hire people off the street give them a week of training and send them off to take pictures in the studio. Do you really want someone with a week of training handling your newborn? To me those are some of the most important shots you will ever get because they will never be that little and sleepy ever again.
Chain studios also only shoot indoors , Custom photographers are mobile and will often shoot at a location of choice. They are able to be as creative as possible and will spend the time getting to know your family making sure everyone is comfortable in front of the camera. A chain studio will spend less than 15 minutes with you, get the “cheese” shot and send you on your way. Custom photographers may charge a little more but there’s usually only one of them doing all the work; The shooting, editing, and customer service is all done by one person. That one person will know you better and fit the photos to match your family.
Another quick tip because I get asked this A LOT… (What do we wear? Or what’s in?) Every family will be different in style but my best tip is add a pop of color and no matchy, matchy! As long as it coordinates, it will look great. If you need some inspiration check out pinterest and type in “What to wear”
