Last Weekend of July

What's going on this weekend? Well it's going to be hot as the more than hot heat wave we've had all month continues into the weekend. Bored and need something to do? There are a few activities that can get you into or out of the heat.  Here's what I found going on for families around town. If you have a tip for future events, please email me at wichitacitymom@gmail.com

Friday, July 30th:
Wet 'n Wild Days at the Sedgwick Co. Zoo - Only on Fridays, there are only two more chances to get wet and stay cool while at the Zoo.  Sprinklers will be set up in various locations throughout and a water play area as well. Regular zoo admission applies. Come prepared to get drenched!

Final Friday Gallery Art Crawl - Throughout Wichita. View the list of galleries and stores participating at Kansas.com. Visit the blog finalfriday.org for pictures and writeups of previous events. Peruse and purchase work from local artists while local bands and instrumentalists perform in the background. Located at various galleries and retailers around the Wichita area, admission and trolley rides to each place is free. Fairly family friendly (depending on the age of your children), but definitely a great date-night activity. If you take your children be aware that alcohol may be served at one or various places.

Saturday, July 31st:
Alef's Harley-Davidson 5th Anniversary Celebration featuring American Daredevil Bubba Blackwell - Help celebrate 5 years in business both Saturday and Sunday with stunt performances by Motorcycle stunt performer Bubba Blackwell. There will be three stunt shows on Saturday, and one on Sunday Ending with a Harley motorcycle jump. Help raise money for the American Diabetes Association with a dunk tank, poker run, and bikini bike wash. Located in Park City. See their map and hours on the website.

Mid-America All Indian Center 39th Annual Pow-Wow - Saturday and Sunday. Free but there is a $1 admission charge for viewing the museum. Experience the dance, art, song and food of the American Indian Culture with  Arts and Crafts booths, Dance competition, and Food court. If you have never experienced the culture that established this city, this is a great chance to see it full blown.  Don't forget to take a walk down the river and visit our Keeper of the Plains.

Exploration Place - Grossology is the exhibit going on now.  Experience snot, burping and gas in a "scientific" and"interactive" way.  Sure to please the 4-12 year old set.

And of course this is the Prime back to school supply shopping weekend with sales sales sales on everything needed for back to school! Catch great sales at Target, and  Old Navy of course. The Gap  has all kids jeans buy one get one for $10! A local consignment store, my favorite Hannah Banana is having 1/2 off summer. Babies R Us, and Justice are also having sales. (Go to savethecoupons.com for a 40% off coupon for Justice! (Thanks, Moneysavingmom.com)

Have a great weekend, I hope it's memorable!
