and don't forget to have something fun for the little ones:
Fresh Seasonal Produce:
Looking for ways to blend healthy with fun? Sumo oranges. Sumos are a cross between a mandarin and an orange. They are seedless, easy to peel, and this year's crop is juice-grade—believe us, you will want to substitute this orange in your juicing routine! They are candy-sweet and dripping with orangey-goodness. They get their name from the little nob that sits at the top of their peel and looks like a sumo wrestler bun. This year's crop was particularly large, so load up soon. The only downside? We only have about 6 weeks to enjoy these little citrus gems before they're gone again for another year. Think of this as the Copper River Salmon of the produce world—they reign supreme.
Super Bowl Popcorn Bar:
One of my favorite "must-haves" from Whole Foods is the organic popping corn, sold by the pound in the bulk section. Once you try the nutty flavor of the tri-colored corn you won't want anything else. Organic and a good source of fiber, make it kid-friendly with some mix-in's to go with it. Some ideas to try:
-Raisins
-peanuts or cashews
-pretzels
-candy-coated chocolate pieces
-chocolate chips
-yogurt-covered raisins
-any dried fruit
-marshmallows
-organic teddy grahams
And if you don't want to pop your own corn grab a bag by Earth Balance. |
Cook the corn on your stove top in a large pot with canola or olive oil. (I use a ratio of 1/3 cup of oil to 2/3 cup of corn to get about 4 cups of popped corn.) Put the lid on, set the heat on medium, and make sure to shake as it pops to keep it from burning. It should only take about 5-7 minutes.
You can find all these ingredients at Whole Foods Market, and trust the quality, and the ingredients for your family. Make sure to look for the Non GMO verified label when choosing your food!
